It’s been a busy week, and I’m late posting. In addition to writing fiction, I’m a facilitator with the Alternatives to Violence Project here in Delaware. I spent last weekend in jail.
Each month, “outside” facilitators go into the Delaware correctional system’s four facilities and work with “inside” facilitators, i.e. prisoners who have taken the Basic, Advanced, and Training for Trainers workshops, to hold workshops for other prisoners teaching anger management and conflict resolution skills.
AVP is an amazing program, developed by Quakers in response to the riots at Attica State Prison in New York State. It’s grown into a world-wide organization that has helped the peace process in Ireland, Rwanda, and other troubled areas.
